Specially priced, collaborative and standards-based software and materials ideal for introducing decision modeling to students

Palo Alto, CA – March 24, 2015 – Decision Management Solutions, a leading provider of decision management professional services, today announced a new Academic Licensing Program that will provide access to its decision modeling software, DecisionsFirst Modeler, as well as instructional and other materials for universities and colleges at a specially reduced subscription price.

DecisionsFirst Modeler is a user-friendly SaaS tool for development of Decision Model and Notation (DMN) standards-based graphical decision models. The new academic licensing allows each section or group to have its own workspaces so students can collaborate with each other and academic staff as they develop solutions to class problems. Individuals or project teams can create additional workspaces for specific projects, integrate with other tools used in the class and publish their results as documents or online. Academic teams get support including white papers, instructional material and custom recorded lectures to help them embed decision modeling into their classroom and project materials.

DecisionsFirst Modeler is already in use by several university programs around the world. Dr. Charles S. (Steve) Knode, Collegiate Professor, Business & Executive Programs at the University of Maryland University College said, “We have been using DecisionsFirst Modeler to help our students learn how to frame predictive analytics projects. Collaboration and team-based solution development are central to our class and DecisionsFirst Modeler delivers an easy-to-use environment for applying the latest thinking in analytic requirements.”

DMN-based decision requirements modeling is a powerful tool for simplifying business process models, structuring business rules, framing predictive analytics efforts and designing dashboards. Academic institutions teaching these subjects can benefit from DecisionsFirst Modeler and decision modeling. Programs in the United States and Europe are already using DecisionsFirst Modeler in analytic, business process and business rules instruction.

“When teaching technical classes it is easy to focus on the technology rather than the business value,” said Dr. Dave Dimas, Faculty, School of Engineering and Director of Engineering, Sciences and Technology Programs for Extension at the University of California, Irvine. “Using decision modeling and DecisionsFirst Modeler early in our predictive analytics certificate keeps the focus on the business goals and business problems to the great benefit of our students.”

”Our clients are having great success using decision modeling in all these areas – processes, analytics, rules and dashboards.” said James Taylor, CEO of Decision Management Solutions. “As they expand their successful initiatives the demand for students with decision modeling skills is going to grow rapidly. We are excited to work with leading colleges and universities to teach students this emerging skill.”
